In British Columbia, the Ministry of Emergency Management and Climate Readiness (EMCR) is basically in charge of handling all kinds of emergencies. They’re the ones who plan and coordinate how we prepare for things like wildfires, how we respond when something happens, and how we recover afterward. They also work on ways to prevent future disasters. It’s good to know that there's a team behind the scenes keeping us safe and helping communities stay ready.
Laws and regulations introduced in 2005 to combat forest fires and the negative impact they have. In B.C., companies that work near forests such as logging or construction businesses have to follow wildfire safety rules. They need to check for fire risks, be careful when using equipment that could spark, and even stop work if the fire danger is too high. They also have to share their emergency contacts with wildfire officials every year. If they don’t follow the rules, they can get fined or be held responsible for starting a fire.
They are all about keeping our forests healthy and safe. They help fund projects to lower the risk of wildfires, and make better homes for animals. It's important because they’re not just helping the environment, they’re also protecting communities like ours and fighting climate change.
